A Campus Pastor Is... Part 4
QUALITY # 4 - A Campus Pastor is...
A CONNECTOR OF PEOPLE
Relationships cannot only exist between YOU and YOUR TEAM, they must exist between each member on your team. This extends to include the people who regularly attend or asking to get connected to the campus.
Graniteism-
NO ONE SERVES ALONE
NO TEAM IS AN ISLAND
CONNECT PEOPLE TO PEOPLE
MAKE DISCIPLES
MORE TOGETHER THAN BY OURSELVES
Example: You are obviously the most likeable guy/girl on campus. Everyone knows you. They high five you, have your cell, direct line, FB, and YOU are their top call. Wow, that’s great... until you reach about 125 people if you’re really really good. 70-80 people if you are amazing like ME.
The key to PEOPLE STICKING isn’t always JUST YOUR DYNAMIC PERSONALITY. If that is the case then their tenure at Granite will be SHORT and SHALLOW. If people don’t connect in an environment outside of your direct relationship or the auditorium, they will be BYE BYE BYE very soon soon soon.
You meet a new awesome couple. They click immediately with you. Your next move? Introduce them to another awesome couple on your team or who is connected to a ministry or small group. Get them talking and let it progress naturally.
There was nothing “natural” about that interaction if you do it right. That couple on your team/ministry/small group have been COACHED BY YOU leading up to that moment, so they know what to do and how to CONNECT WITH OTHER PEOPLE. So they become an extension of your leadership. They become an extension and expression of Jesus Christ to that young couple. You have helped them become a better DISCIPLE of CHRIST and are setting them UP to lead others to be disciples as well.
You have led people on your team to start SMALL GROUPS in their community. Opening up their home for community, Bible study, and building friendships. You have led your team leaders to go beyond scheduling for the weekend and towards POURING THEIR LIVES into the team. They pray together, encourage each other (see definition of encourage) and KNOW WHEN THEY BECOME MIA.
BOTTOM LINE - If everyone has to connect with you, then they are short timers OR you have crippled our ability to reach people and lead them to be fully devoted followers of Christ. Those who stick around and only remain relationally attached to you, will never become the disciples or leaders that God has created them to be! A campus pastor is a CONNECTOR of PEOPLE!
